YUBA COUNTY,  CALIFORNIA

This family hunting lodge is situated among rural farms and rice fields. The architecture relates to the local barn-industrial vernacular and responds to intense environmental conditions and rugged use. Salient features include a rusting steel roof, thick stucco walls and an entry tower. The lodge was designed with passive and active energy systems that include a ventilated roof system, cooling pond, and radiant heated floors. The lodge uses no mechanical air conditioning.
